The idea of the Steammachine has been out there for a long time but we haven’t seen a lof of it. What we did see is the release of the Steam controllers final version which has been available for sale since November last year. We already did a review on it and it looked very promising to improve game-accessibility but we haven’t seen a lot of examples yet.
CAD files
But this may soon change. Last week Steam released the mechanical CAD files for all the parts of the controller.

Every single part of the controller can now be modified by you to suit your every need. Wether its bigger buttons, a smaller handle or just your name on top. Besides all the fun stuff you can do with it it also creates a lot of opprtunities for the people who couldnt use the controller before. They mightl be able to do so now with the right modifications to the controller.

Modify the case
For example you could modify the case and layout of the buttons to one side so that players with one hand have a better grip and are able to reach the buttons better. You could also add an attachment to the back of the controller so it can rest on a holder. This way you dont have to carry the weight of the controller.
Just like the controller itself, it all seems very promosing but the it is up to the people themself to create the modifications that they want or need.. Valve is not going to do it for us They gave us the tools and we need to do it ourself.
Send your ideas
We are eager to find out what we can do with this controller and all the files we have now. If you have any good ideas for modifying this controller to your special needs let us know and we will try to make it a reality!
We can design and print the new part ourselves and send it to you so you can test it our for yourself and share the results with the rest of us.
