hello again, many are viewing this thread but no one can gain, I am on the verge of finding solutions to playing the greatest FPS in the history of the universe. First a few considerations:
1. My injury to my left arm leaves only my right arm, hand and fingers for play, i am therefore catering for righties mainly but i hope lefties can draw from the same idea and adapt....because this is what disabilities force us to do....to adapt but never to quit. To quit is to truly be disabled.
2. Never tell one handed people to play WIII just because they cannot use wasd and mouse at same time. I hate when ppl tell me i cannot do something because of my disability. If anyone tells you to play WIII or Red Alert tell them to go to hell and take their opposable thumbs with them because we dont need those!!
3. LOVE FPS games, they are your friend. If you are one handed or can only use one hand because of an anomaly with the other and you can play a FPS game, you have achieved and should be proud and never forget to help those who are still trying to find a way.
On the third note, I will be trying a few methods for playing COD4. My methods will involve using:
1. Programmable mice
2. Joysticks (oh yeah!!)
3. Keyboard and mouse(laptop touchpad) and also a modified conventional
4. USB compatible console controller - XBOX 360
So far, i have tried playing Soldier of Fortune II with my laptop - Dell Insp 1420. Where I place my thumb on the touchpad - the mouse of the laptop, and reconfigure the directionals to ijkl with 'u' for fire and other close keys for the other functions (of course you can set the directionals to whatever best suits you as SOF II offers full configurationality. THIS IS HARD - but doable with lots of practice and mouse sensitivity tweaking. My view on this method my be a bit stilted however because my thumb is deranged, it is just weird and unlike other thumbs so it makes for a bit of discomfort when using this method. I think some people may like it though, it is something worth considering.
If you do not have a laptop, or do not think this method is suited to your situation then you can consider the other methods i listed, each with your own touch. For example:
1. Programmable Mice:
Daveyboy has recommended the use of the Microsoft Intellimouse, this option is appealing to me because its buttons are programmable and there are thumb buttons on either side if you are a lefty or righty. I ordered this mouse recently for a mere 20 something
USD on amazon.com and I will post on my results soon. I expect to have an easier time playing with this method.
I will post later on the other items on the list and once i get to try them out i will follow up on what i think is best. If anyone tries any of these and has seen this thread, return with an account of your experiences. This would be to the benefit of all. Until then, I pause,
