Topic: GA.com hacked

Hi! It seems game-accessibility was hacked. Google warns for malware.

Re: GA.com hacked

When you put GA back up after the hacking, you didn't include a way to mark all topics as read..  I check on what is new since my last visit.  When you have, as you did today, a spammer advertising for something on all the topic areas, you have to go to each one to get it marked as read since you don't have the old button that does this for you.

Isn't there some way of preventing people from posting such crap on here?  I suppose not since we have tons of spam email coming to our company emails every day.  It is just frustrating for people who are interested in what is going on in game accessibility and get lots of info from this website.

Re: GA.com hacked

Hey Eleanor, thank you for the heads up.

I was on vacation the last two weeks, so that is why I could not delete the spam on time, sorry about that. We normally delete it all at least once a day.

I'll see what I can do about the "mark all topics read" button.

Brian.

Re: GA.com hacked

I've also been sad to see how much spam has appeared on these forums.  Is there a captcha in place to help prevent automatic registrations?

Re: GA.com hacked

The problem with using captcha is that it will prevent blind and VI folks from using the website unless it has a sound equivalent.  Most forums have a restriction that only registered members can post to them.  This can be bypassed by hacking into the system and getting the Email addresses that are registered.  It is a constant war!!

Wouldn't you think that spammers would be interested in far more lucrative markets than handicapped gamers?  Oh well - I guess we just have to keep on keeping on!

Re: GA.com hacked

Yeah, I figured that was probably the reason captchas were left out... but I'm pretty sure 99% of the spammers here aren't putting forth any efforts above automated registration.  Captchas would fix the 99%, but you're definitely right... for this type of forum it just won't work.
