Topic: New Audio Augmented Reality engine for Android phones

With this Audio Augmented Reality (AAR) engine, you can make sound turn around you through the normal headphone. Or you can walk around and hear if objects or sounds are in front of you or behind etc. Hear things and information that is not there in real life. Hear objects and monsters in the street that nowbody sees. Audio Augmented Reality....

Audio Augmented Reality....ROCKS!

Using state of the art technology for the Android platform, the engine generates sound information to the ears (normal stereo headphone) and calculates distance, sound level, angle and more. We will make examples for the iphone later this year, but we are starting with Android.

Let us know if you would like to help us test the applications we make later this year. We are looking for both iphone and android users.
This project was made possible with financial help from Vereniging Bartimeus.

Re: New Audio Augmented Reality engine for Android phones

Hello,

This piece of technology really intrigues me.
I would like to get in touch with project members about the engine and its (potential) applications.  As an industrial design student I'm working on project centered on game interaction between the blind and sighted.
I already sent Stichting Bartiméus Accessibility an email, making clear my main points of interest.  I hope they get back to me soon.

greetings,

Re: New Audio Augmented Reality engine for Android phones

Hi Dries, can you tell us more about the project you are working on and what you want to accomplish there? Sounds interesting to research games where there is interaction or competition between sighted and non-sighted people. The forum would be interested to know more. You might also want to include people who have the game platform in their pocket (mobile phone etc.) and thus use sound-only for gaming. Then even sighted people have to rely on sound...

Let us know your questions and maybe we can discuss them here or in the 'visually disabled gamers' part of this forum.
