Topic: Augmented Reality for blind people (AAR)

And not just fun for blind people...
We at Accessibility Foundation just finished a brand new 3d Sound Engine for Android adding audio to Augmented Reality. With this Audio Augmented Reality (AAR) engine, we can make sound turn around you through the normal headphone. Or you can walk around and hear if objects or sounds are in front of you or behind etc. Hear things and information that is not there in real life. Hear objects and monsters in the street that nowbody sees and walk towards them.
Using state of the art technology for the Android platform, the engine generates sound information to the ears (normal stereo headphone) and calculates distancem sound level, angle and more. First we will make some final tests and then we are looking for YOU programmers out there to help us make games that demonstrate the possibilities of this engine and make the real world more accessible. We plan to start up a project making this possible later this year.

Questions:
1. Do you know other AAR engines (besides for the iphone)
2. Who uses and Android phone and would like to test?

This project was made possible with financial help from Vereniging Bartimeus.

Re: Augmented Reality for blind people (AAR)

We should start to work on doing this for iPhone also.
There is already a sound engine that works on the iphone, windows etc.. We used that engine many years ago for the Demor shooting game for the blind. It was enormous fun seeing blind people on a football field shooting virtual monsters :-)
We wanted to take that to a miniature level by letting it work on a mobile phone.

We plan to start a game project on the iphone 4th quarter of this year but now focus on Android. There is some information about Demor at: http://www.accessibility.nl/games/index … ile=demor. This is what we have made working on a mobile Android phone. We still have to upgrade the speed as we experience a short lag when moving and when turning around. We did not yet make a game for it... so.. More to come!
