Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is just out and just like other years it’s a spectacle piece. But does this also apply to blind and partially sighted people?
To get an answer to the question above, I just sat down for an evening. As a fanatic gamer, I am also a fan of a good shooter like this. What strikes me initially is that the interface of the game is very busy. This means that there are many different menu options and that there is a lot of information in the image. This is difficult for me, let alone someone who is blind or visually impaired.
In addition to the busy menu interface, Activision has added adjustments to the game for people who are color blind. For example, you can indicate at the settings of the game what color blind type you have (none, protanopy, deuteranopy or tritanopy. The colors in the game will be adjusted automatically. In addition, it is possible to use a color blind target filter. to enable or disable motion blur in the world (the simulated blur of moving objects) and weapon movement (the blur effect when the camera or objects move quickly).
Although it is again a very good game, the game is not a spectacular highlight for the blind and visually impaired. Game developers still focus too little on accessibility for people with visual impairments, apart from the fact that there are some adjustments for people with color blindness.
